In a report published by the Center for Countering Digital Hate, researchers found that TikTok algorithms are trending with content containing self-harm, eating disorders, and mental illness aimed at users as young as 13 within minutes of scrolling. Meanwhile, lawmakers suspect the Chinese-owned platform is collecting data and have proposed legislation to ban TikTok in the U.S. Brendan Carr, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman, said,”It’s no longer whether TikTok is going to be banned, in terms of its current operations in the U.S., but a question of when.â€
