The Socialists & Democrats (S&D) group of the EU Parliament has come under scrutiny after one of its most prominent members, Eva Kaili, was arrested for suspicion of taking money for political leverage in favor of a Persian Gulf state, possibly Qatar. Kaili has since been removed from her position as EU Parliament Vice President. Now four other members of the S&D have been suspended or stepped down while the investigation continues. S&D President Iratxe GarcÃa Pérez said, “My group and myself are shocked by this corruption case.”
