Monday’s release of the Twitter Files part 5 uncovers details that former President Trump had not violated Twitter policies. According to Bari Weiss of The Free Press, Twitter resisted blocking Trump on the platform because “it would hide important information that people should be able to see and debate.” Weiss and Independent journalist Matt Taibbi have documented that due to mounting pressure after January 6, both internally and externally, Twitter decided to ban Trump. One Twitter employee who dissented against banning Trump wrote, “Maybe because I am from China. I deeply understand how censorship can destroy the public conversation.”
