Lawyer Michael Avenatti, who is already serving time for other crimes, was sentenced to 14 years for defrauding four former clients out of $7.6 million and for obstructing the IRS from receiving payroll taxes from a business he owned. In the California case, Avenatti received money from trust accounts on behalf of clients whose cases he had won, then lied to them about receiving it, according to the Justice Department. In 2016, Avenatti became famous for representing adult film star Stormy Daniels in a lawsuit against Donald Trump.
