Iranian Attorney General Mohammad Jafar Montazeri said in a statement this past weekend that Iran’s Morality Police “have been shut down from where they were set up.” However, Montazeri’s statement has not been confirmed by the government and some media outlets are saying that his remarks have been “misinterpreted.” Other outlets condemn the “false headlines” and stress that observing hijab is “still a law in Iran”. It was Iran’s Morality Police who arrested Mahsa Amini in September and when she died while in custody, it sparked nationwide protests which have continued.
