Italy and France in Diplomatic Row Over Migration

Objectivity 3.9 | Credibility 4.6 | Relevance 4.6

Italy refused port to a humanitarian rescue ship, the Ocean Viking, holding 234 migrants.  Newly elected Italian conservative prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, dispatched the ship to the French port of Toulon.  A statement from Meloni suggests that France’s policies have enticed migrants to come to Europe for welfare.  According to the U.K. Express, a diplomatic row between Italy and France has erupted over migration.  French President Macron accepted the rescue ship but retaliated by suspending France’s participation in an EU solidarity pact to accept 3,000 relocated migrants from Italy this year.
