Beijing ordered the lockdown of the southern Chinese metropolis of Guangzhou’s largest district due to its zero-COVID policy. Baiyun district, home to 3.7 million people in Guangzhou, also suspended in-person classes for schools and sealed off universities. Public transit has been suspended and residents are required to present a negative test before being allowed to leave their homes. On Sunday, the Beijing reported China’s first COVID-19 death in over six months.
