21 Republican Senators Urge 12 Colleagues Voting for Same-sex Marriage Bill to Reverse Course

Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), along with 20 other GOP senators, are urging their 12 GOP colleagues who voted for the same-sex marriage bill, the so-called ‘Respect for Marriage Act’ last Wednesday, to reverse course unless the amendment Lee proposed is added to the bill. “The free exercise of religion is absolutely essential to the health of our Republic” Lee wrote in a “Dear Colleague” letter, signed by his 20 GOP colleagues. The letter implies that the 12 lawmakers still have a chance to change their decision, since Wednesday’s vote only allowed the debate over the bill to proceed, not breaking the filibuster yet.
