Rep. Andy Biggs Urges GOP to Reconsider McCarthy For House Speaker

Objectivity 4.3 | Credibility 4.5 | Relevance 4.7

After the Republicans’ flat performance in the midterm elections, conservatives are urged to reconsider the speakership position.  Representative Andy Biggs, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, (R-AZ) referring to House minority leader Kevin McCarthy said, his leadership should not be “a foregone conclusion.”  Biggs’ assertion is that McCarthy “back peddled on things like impeachment” indicating his willingness to lessen oversight authority needed as leverage in dealing with a Democrat president.  In the case of a thin GOP majority, there will be enough votes from the Freedom Caucus to block McCarthy from becoming speaker.
