The Russian Defense Ministry announced it is withdrawing its forces from Kherson after losing vital supply routes. It is a setback for Russian forces because as Ukraine continues to recapture lost territory, the city could become a springboard for Ukraine to take back even more territory, including Crimea which was seized by Russia in 2014. Alexander Khara, of the Kyiv-based think tank Center for Defense Strategies, said he believes Russian forces could blow up a dam which lies upriver from Kherson, isolating the city from Ukrainian forces seeking to recapture it.
