Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian voiced a strong rebuke from the Chinese government after U.K. Trade Minister Greg Hands visited Taiwan recently.  Lijian said that the British government should “earnestly respect China’s sovereignty, uphold the one-China principle, stop any forms of official contacts with Taiwan and stop sending wrong signals to Taiwan independence separatist forces.” The U.K. government issued a statement that Hands was in Taiwan to co-host the annual trade talks between the U.K. and Taiwan as well as to meet with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen.
