Bolsonaro Makes Statement Two Days after Election

Objectivity 4.0 | Credibility 4.7 | Relevance 4.6

Two days after Brazil’s presidential election, President Jair Bolsonaro makes his first statement.  In a press conference, Bolsonaro said, “As a president and as a citizen I will continue to follow all the commandments of our constitution.”  In his brief two-minute speech, he did not concede to losing and made no mention of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s victory. However, Chief of Staff Ciro Nogueira reported that Bolsonaro authorized him to “begin the transition process.”  Truck drivers who are diehard Bolsonaro supporters blocked roads in dozens of Brazilian states, as well as the road to the international airport in Sao Paulo.
