As Chinese leader Xi Jinping has begun his precedent-breaking third term, anti-Xi protests have spread in China and worldwide, inspired by a man hanging an anti-Xi banner on the Sitong bridge in Beijing right before China’s party congress. In China, anti-Xi slogans were put up on walls and doors in public bathrooms in which surveillance cameras were not set up. Overseas, Chinese international students have become the agents of posting anti-Xi posters on university campuses. “Life not zero-Covid policy, freedom not lockdown, dignity not lies, reform not regression, votes not dictatorship, citizens not slaves” one of the posters read, in English.
