Adm. Mike Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations, said last Wednesday that China could invade Taiwan later this year, accelerating experts’ forecast of China’s 2027 attack. During an Atlantic Council event in Washington D.C., Gilday emphasized China’s 20-year track record of keeping “every promise they’ve made earlier than they said.” He added, “So when we talk about the 2027 window, in my mind, that has to be a 2022 window or potentially a 2023 window.” Last year, Adm. Phil Davidson, former Commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, told Congress that China could invade Taiwan by 2027.
