Russia And Syria Conduct Joint Military Exercise

Objectivity 4.9 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.6

Syrian state media reported that joint military exercises were conducted with Russia involving both air and ground forces.  The allied troops practiced conducting an artillery barrage supported by fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, dropping paratroopers close to target areas then securing them.  Joint operations are not uncommon as Russia is a strong supporter of Syrian President Assad.  In June, the two countries conducted an exercise close to the disputed Golan Heights, and in February, they held another exercise jointly one week before Russia invaded Ukraine.
