North and South Korea on Monday exchanged warning shots along their disputed western sea border, accusing each other of intruding into their maritime borders, amid heightened tension in the region caused by North Korea’s recent barrage of weapons tests. According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, its navy broadcast warnings and fired warning shots to repel a North Korean merchant ship that crossed the sea boundary. North Korea’s military said its coastal defense units fired 10 rounds of artillery warning shots toward its territorial waters in response.
