Biden Administration’s Delays On Domestic Oil Leases Don’t Add Up

Objectivity 4.7 | Credibility 4.8 | Relevance 4.8

The Biden Administration has allowed an ongoing error in its oil and gas leasing permitting process to delay and create a backlog of applications for domestic oil and gas exploration and production.  The glitch lies in the mathematical model which estimates the impact of drilling on local sea life and has been acknowledged since April by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), the sub-agency of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  Yet the agency has been slow to correct the error. Energy industry group National Ocean Industries Association (NOIA) President Erik Milito said “These permitting delays have a real impact on the industry’s ability to safely and efficiently explore, drill and produce energy in the offshore sector.”
