A PayPal spokesperson said that the updated Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), fining users $2,500 for ‘promoting misinformation,’ was posted in error. “An AUP notice recently went out in error that included incorrect information,” the spokesperson said. “PayPal is not fining people for misinformation and this language was never intended to be inserted in our policy.” When the new policy was first released, even former PayPal President David Marcus criticized the policy in a tweet, saying, “PayPal’s new AUP goes against everything I believe in.”
