This week the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced it was purchasing over $290 million worth of drugs to treat “acute radiation syndrome in adult and pediatric patients.” Acute radiation syndrome is the result of exposure to a nuclear blast.  The announcement from the DHHS comes at a time in which President Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have been engaged in an escalation of words concerning recent events in the Russia-Ukraine war and the potential use of nuclear weapons by the U.S. and Russia.
