Hurricane Ian has struck Cuba with winds over 125 mph and a storm surge of 14 feet along the coast. Over 50,000 people were evacuated and housed in shelters. Ian has left tobacco fields devastated and over 1 million Cubans without power, but no deaths have been reported. Ian is now expected to gain in strength to a Category 4 hurricane before hitting west central Florida early Wednesday morning. With winds expected to be 140 mph or greater and possible 5-to-10-foot storm surge, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered the evacuation of an estimated 2.5 million Floridians in the storm’s expected path.
