Over 20 million households in the US are behind on utility bill payments and could face shutoff in the near future. Mark Wolfe, executive director of the National Energy Assistance Directors Association (NEADA) says the numbers are due to rapidly increasing energy prices. The amount owed has doubled from $8.1 billion to over 16 $billion since 2019 averaging out to $792 in delinquent bills per household. Winter is not expected to bring relief with natural gas prices in July over 30% higher than July of 2021.
