Republican Mayra Flores won a special election for Texas’ 34th congressional district, defeating Democrat Dan Sanchez 51% to 43%. Flores’ victory seems to confirm a theory that Hispanic Americans are leaving the Democratic Party. Texas’ 34th congressional district is majority Hispanic, and that region had been dominated by Democrats for over 100 years. “…I’m one of them and I’m also standing up for our values. God, family, our community. That’s who we are in South Texas. We’re all about hard work,” Flores said.
