Walt Disney-Pixar animated film, “Lightyear,” was banned from screening in cinemas in the United Arab Emirates over same-sex relationship characters. According to a Twitter post by the Ministry of Youth and Culture’s media regulatory office, the film violates national media content standards and cannot be licensed for screening. Same-sex relationships are criminalized in many Middle Eastern and Muslim nations. Some social media posts stated the film’s inclusion of same-sex relationships goes against the religion and culture and that such imagery is not suitable for children.
