Russia Uses Hypersonic Weapon Against Ukraine

Russia reportedly used hypersonic missiles in combat against Ukraine last week. Hypersonic missiles travel at five times the speed of sound, have lower trajectories than ballistic missiles, and can maneuver before hitting their intended target, making it hard to shoot them down. Gen. David Thompson, vice chief of space operations, said late last year, “we’re not as advanced as the Chinese or the Russians in terms of hypersonic programs.”
