U.S. Companies Face Possible Microchip Shortage

American companies have less than five days worth of semiconductors in stock according to the Commerce Department. The US Senate has approved a $52 billion bill for domestic semiconductor research and production, but the House of Representatives has yet to act. Intel plans to spend $20 billion on a new U.S. facility to build chips, but production would start by 2025 at the earliest.
