Big donors and national party groups poured almost $100 million into state Supreme Court races in the last two-years, the largest spending in the last two decades. Those positions have gained relevance in cases ranging from the culture war to the redistricting process. “All of this undermines the public perception of courts as somehow different from the other political branches” said Douglas Keith, an attorney at the Brennan Center for Justice.
