Centennial Elementary School in Colorado has sparked outrage with its segregated playtime for families of color. School officials said the event was formed due to parents’ requests, and it is open to all families. Dave Kopel, a law professor at Denver University, claimed the event violated Colorado State law that schools do not make “any distinction or classification of pupils be made on account of race or color.” COVID-19 protocols forced the cancellation but, the school said it plans to resume the event in 2022.
