U.S. Beefs Up Annual Defense Bill to Deter Russia and China

Objectivity 3.0 | Credibility 4.5 | Relevance 4.8

U.S. lawmakers decided to push back against Russia and China in a compromise version of a massive annual defense bill of $770 billion. It includes $300 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, $4 billion for the European Defense Initiative, $150 million for Baltic security cooperation, $7.1 billion for the Pacific Deterrence Initiative, and a statement of congressional support for the defense of Taiwan. The White House said it supports sanctions if Russia invades Ukraine, but not provisions that could threaten trans-Atlantic ties.
