NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio’s deadline for city employees to get vaccinated or lose their job forced the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) to close 26 of their stations. Sixteen percent of those employed by the New York Police Department (NYPD), twenty-three percent of all FDNY employees, and twenty-eight percent of FDNY firefighters chose to be suspended without pay rather than take the vaccine. Local politicians and residents are criticizing the mandate because of the results it yields.
