U.S. Sent a Destroyer to Defy China’s Maritime Claims

Objectivity 4.6 | Credibility 4.7 | Relevance 4.2

The U.S. sent a warship to the contested area of the South China Sea, challenging China’s claims over those waters. Although Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and China claim ownership over the sea, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea establishes those as international waters. Despite China’s new restrictive maritime law, the U.S. will continue upholding its right to go through international waters in the area.
