As the tail-end of Hurricane Ida ravaged the northeast, power was knocked out along with streets, homes, and subways being flooded. The storm prompted New York City to issue its first ever flash flood warning. There have been reports of 25 people dead overnight from being trapped in apartments to getting caught in flash floods. Rescuers were searching for more stranded people Thursday morning and were bracing for a potentially higher death toll as the day goes on.
