Nazir Banat, an Palestinian activist, was arrested and allegedly beaten to death at the end of June. According to the governor of Hebron, “during the arrest his health deteriorated.” One group said, “the assassination of Mr. Banat reflected the PA’s bloody policy of settling scores.” His family alleges the violence during the arrest caused his death. Groups of activists gather to protest claiming the Palestinian Authority has a record of suppressing the opposition.
