Because of the Covid-19 restrictions added to last year’s drought and typhoons, “The people’s food situation is now getting tense” Kim Jong Un said. Due to its nuclear program, North Korea has been sanctioned several times by the UN and the U.S. which has helped lead to the crisis. Some UN Diplomats have appealed for a temporal lifting of the sanctions to bring relief to the food crisis. However, others argue the sanctions are finally pressuring Kim’s regime by affecting its economy.
