From October 2020 to April 2021, The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement released 27,417 minors in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Iowa, New York, and the border states. According to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Iowa Governor, Kim Reynolds, the unaccompanied children were transported into their states with no advance notification from the U.S. government, which created mistrust and confusion.
